ImageAt WYD Toronto "Pro-Choice" and "Anti-Abortion" groups had demonstrations. And now, finally WYD cologne has an issue like that which can be fought over in the streets.

It is "pro-contraception" versus "pro-abstinence".

Pro-Condom activists had a press conference for the use of condoms criticising the church for its official anti-contraception that they hold partly responsible for high HIV/AIDS-rates in catholic-dominated countries. And they put up posters in the subway stations with slogans like "Abstinence has a high failure rate".

Now, the other faction has stricken back - attacking the posters.
Pro-Condom Poster sayingKath.net reports that in a surprise action, the other side has put their own slogans on the posters:  „We Know: abstinence works! Catholics choose a culture of life. True love waits. Free catholics make a REAL choice“.

While World Youth Day itself is indulging in not much more than joyful celebration and pilgrimage, sports reporters now have their game to watch, and they want to see the next move of the teams.

Meanwhile, pulitzer.de-reporters have heard youth pilgrims say they are dismayed of being asked the condom-question by activists during World Youth Day. Something that is clear even to Molly O’Gorman, 24, who works at the US-based Catholics for a Free Choice and is presently in Cologne to pursue the anti-aids condom campaign: "Reasonable young catholics use condoms anyway", she said.
