Journalists who buy tickets for the Pope's airplane to travel
with him partly help to finance his travel to Cologne, the german paper
DIE WELT reports today. This time there were 121 applications for the
tickets for the papal jet. 70 will fly, among them 40
journalists, six photographers and 24 camera and sound crew.
The criteria of Vatican speaker Joaquín Navarro-Valls for granting the
tickets are not clear, DIE WELT writes. The media pay the price to be
able to see and speak the Pope face to face. This has been possible on
John Paul II's flights. The late Pope used to leave his special
compartment in the head of the plane, make his way through the
compartment with other Vatican travellers to shake hands with the press
in the back of the aircraft and give interviews.
The paper speculates Bemedikt XVI would certainly continue with this
custom of JP II to make shure press tickets for his Papal plane will be
sold out in the future too.
As usual interviews or press conferences with the Holy Father are scheduled during his stay at WYD 2005 in Cologne. |
