Although Pope Benedikt XVI is to announce officially the host of
the next meeting on World Youth Day 2008 only during his stay in
Cologne, a Vatican reporter claims to have learned that Sydney
was the choice of the pope.
In his Column at National Catholic Reporter, John Allen wrote: "NCR
has learned that Pell's (the cardinal of Sydney) efforts have paid off
-- the next World Youth Day will indeed be held "down under" in
Sydney.. Cathnews.com from Australia callls John Allen "one of the most
respected foreign journalists at the Vatican".
