A "religion-free zone"  has been declared by activists during WYD 2005 in Cologne. In a series of events, demonstrations, performances and other public appearances they want to create a "counter public" against the mega event WYD, with "Heidenspaß", as they claim, a German term which could be translated with "capital fun" as wall as with "fun as much as a pagan can have".

Events include speeches about subjects lilke church finances or pope Benedikt or Cologne cardinal Joachim Meisner, performances with titles like
"The Passion of Christ feat. Screamin´ Jay Jesus" or "The First Cologne Free Spirit Pilgrimage".

Their placard shows a lamb in front of signs showing "religion-free zone" and  "better heidenspass but helll's pain".placard of religion free zone with a smiling lamb on it
