A Condom Company, Mapa, has dropped plans to produce a special World
Youth Day Condom due to trade mark laws, but the honorary caretaker of
120 young WYD guests in the small town of Mechernich-Satzvey near
Cologne is planning to distribute Mapa condoms to the youth he will be
responsible for. Asked about this on August 2nd, however, the parish
has requested media to not report on this any more - pulitzer.de
reporter Tim Schauen was told that meanwhile the condoms were sent back
to the producer.
Dieter Schulz told the Newspaper Neue Rhein/Ruhr-Zeitung that in his
parish distributing condoms was self-evident, not only in this but in
all other events when his parish had youth groups together - like e.g.
in youth tent camps.
"I am the father of the shelter", Schulz said, who will be in charge of
the overnight facilities in a lokal school, adding that though he knew
the church had a "tense relationship" to condoms, he had none
whatsoever. http://www.pulitzer.de/images/condom.jpg
German news magazine is giving a quote of pope Benedikt XVI on Condoms
and the youth on the occasion the World Youth Day in Rome 2000:
In speaking privately about the young people who celebrated John Paul
II at the World Youth Day, only to leave fields strewn with used
condoms, Ratzinger said: "We don't need these young people".
Meanwhile, by Aug. 5, a policeman from Düsseldorf has also announced to distribute condoms.
And the Cologne anti-aids-initiative has announced it will even distribute 33,000 packs to pilgrims in a move to prevent the disease.
